Default Digital Servos

Hi Guys,
I am using Futaba 9650 digital servos in Q500 424 racing class. Can any of you tell me could I use A 500 mah battery pack at 4.8 volts to run these servos in 5 heats of racing &
10 laps per heat. So I would be looking at 50 laps, & abit of mucking around. Now would I be safe to use this size battery pack? (Your Comments please.)
Thanks
Dave.

You shouldn't have any issues running a 500mah pack whether it's Nicad or Nimh (provided that it's in good shape). I typically run a 4.8volt 720Nimh, but I rarely put more than 300mah back into the pack after seven or eight flights, and usually put in closer to 250mah.

What you could do is to make the charging jack easily accessible for checking the voltage between flights,,, without having to take off the wing. If you think its to low for your standards, then all you would have to do is give it a little charge in preparation for the next flight.

Vendata.....

Gary Schmidt answered your question. yes... 500mah Nicad or Nimh would work just fine. You could probably fly 10 heats. Therefore, flying 5 heats of 10 laps each is not going to be a problem.

500 mah Nicads would be fine. If they were Nimh's I would recommend going up to 720. Both should be fine, I've just had better luck with Nicads in the smaller sizes.

How much more power drain are the typical digital servos used for racing versus the hs-225, jr3021 or jr901? I am still using a lot of pretty old stuff and will have to upgrade at some point. Still using 350 5-cell Nicad packs as well.... plenty of power for the servos I am using but I guess not for digitals?

I use hs 5245 digitals and some times hs5125. With the hs 5245s I've flown 7 heats with a 5cell 350 nicad without issue. But like Gary I find that I have to put about 250 to 300 mamps back after a race. I only use 500 to 750 packs now either 4 cell or 5 cell nicad or nimh. Actually I select my pack for weight and balance. Granted probably not the best reason for what pack to use but I've never had an issue with any of them.
