Windcosmic;

If you have to worry about money and prices, stay out of the game until you can afford the Nelsons and other $400.00 engines. You can't compete with the high dollar guys. You can fly the OS or other sport engines with a home built Viper and learn what goes along the way and not break the bank. Become a super pilot and learn how to set up a bird correctly from the fast guys, and ENJOY. MHO

Ciao

Hello!
Did I understand you correct that you have an OPS .40 engine?
The OPS is nothing compared to modern Nelson and JETT engines. Sorry!
If you haven't flown a Q-500 airplane with one of those engines I advise you to begin with something more docile engine wise. The Webra .40 GT and the ASP .40 is the most powerful standard engines available today if you run 80/20 FAI fuel and 10x6 -10x7 plastic props like we do here in Sweden. They both turn a RAM or Graupner cam prop (10x6) at over 14500 rpm using Nova Rossi 4 glow plugs.

I don't know the horsepower of nelson and jett engines, anyway, the ops I have turns a 7.8*7 at about 22.000 rpm. I was interested in the ST g.500 but I am not able to find them anymore. I had a jett quickee .40 but it had a lot of troubles: impossible to idle well, it always stopped in flight and it was less powerful than a G500 of a my friend.

The Quickie Jett is similar to Nelson engine and don't have idle ...
if this engine stopped in flight maybe you need to set your needle valve better, also, check your tank, i always use Tetra bubble less fuel tank in my Nelson engines.

when it comes to racing, the best engine for the money is the most reliable engine. you don,t need the full house nelson etc to win a race as these engines do stop very easily in race compared to the more stock type of engine such as O.S. another point is how good you can fly, say the guy with the quick nelson engine isn,t as good as you with the o.s. powered racer, you win.
