Hobbico Viper?
Having use to race in the days of wood. I just couldn't pass up the deal I got on a (NIB) Hobbico Viper ARC. My plan is to put a K&B (4011) .40 on it and have fun. Is the Viper a decent flyer? In the old days my favorite was a Nelson equipped (conventional tail) Dodger. Tips on assembly would be greatly appreciated; Or, suggestions for improvements? Were can I get some fuselage mounted gear for it? i.e. Dodger style. This is purely a "have FUN" venture. Although I may put a .25 on it and race with some guys near me. Low key and cheap is my Motto.
Thanks for looking

I like the way the Viper flys. I’ve been through 3 of them, all conventional tail. I had one that had 3 little plane emblems on the side (survived 3 mid-airs).

astropuppy,
I'm on my second one. They fly great. Several guys in my club have them. We all agreed to build them the same(conventional tail) and all use the same engine(SuperTigre .40 w/econo muffler). Then we race. It puts the race in the pilots hands. Too bad their discontinued.

Astro,
How far are you from Spokane? Because there is a pylon race at the Deer Park Airport this Saturday and Sunday, May 31 and June 1. They will be running APRA class. You should bolt a TT40 on that Viper and come out and race and have some fun.

If I had to pick the ideal setup for someone starting 424 class racing, it would be a Viper with a Super Tigre GS .40. You may not be the fastest plane in the race but speed is a small part or racing. You will have some advantages:
The above two items will cause you to miss fewer heats because you are busy ‘Fixing’. More heats mean more practice and more confidence.
- Your aircraft will take off and land better than most.
- Your engine and muffler will not be coming apart.

Thanks for the invite; But, a 12 hour drive is a little to much driving for me. Just got back from a 700 mile rt last weekend.
