BARNSTORMERS RACE DELAYED 1 WEEK
It's official - got the e-mail from the CD just a few minutes ago. Due to the terrible weather forecast, we're delaying the RC Barnstormers fall Q500 race by a week, to September 20/21st.
Please, if you know of any that have mentioned possibly coming to the race, let them know. We've sent out an e-mail to 35-40 people that we know in our Q500 mailing list, but we're hoping to get the word out to anyone that might have been planning to come.
E-mail or PM me for any further info, hope to see you on the 20th & 21st!
Gordon

Greetings from Caracas, Venezuela! I'll be coming home from my business trip on Thursday instead of Friday, so I'll have a chance to get all the batteries cycled, charged, etc. I found that my two 270 packs (fairly new, less than a year or so) have crapped out, even with making sure not to over charge, etc. so I have to test a couple of new packs prior to then.. at least now I get a chance to do that!
See ya Saturday, Duane. Let's have some fun!

And a good time was had by all...
Seriously, it was a great weekend of racing. 6 rounds of 7 heats each on Saturday in the 424 race. There was one midair that I remember, but the total carnage was pretty minimal, actually. The weather was superb, a little muggy but not too hot.
Sunday (428) we didn't have many entries, but the ones we had sure had a good time! We flew 7 rounds, had a lot of laughs, a couple of cases of cut-itis, but no crashes. Rick Miller and I traded a little paint on wingtips at one point, but neither of us was really aware of it until after the race. I had a bit of monokote missing at a wingtip, he had a small wingtip hole in his composite wing, but neither of us had any trouble with the flying. He swapped to his backup to be careful, I taped up the missing monokote with some clear 3M tape, and we kept racing..
All in all, a good weekend, lots of fun with good friends, and I hope we can do it all again. I think the RC Barnstormers are planning on two races again next year, one in the spring, one in September. We've been having 20+ entries in the 424 events around the KC area since last fall's race at KCRC, so it makes for some good racing!
Y'all ought to come and race with us next year!
Duane Hulen said he took a bunch of pictures, and when he gets a chance he'll post a batch here.

RE: RC Barnstormers Fall Race 2008
Thank-you Carl, Steve, Gordon and the Olathe Barnstormers. The race was a ton of fun. All the KCRC guys are pumped and building back-ups for our upcoming October 4th race.
The lights were top notch, as is the clock. The area’s equipment continues to improve and so does the level of competition. Guys are really getting after it on the course and having a lot fun doing it.
Sorry I couldn’t make it back out for the 428 action. Daddy duties.
I’ve attached some photos taken by Scott and Larry Causey. You can tell by the smiles how much fun folks are having.
Gordon, I have to agree that 424 on the short course is low stress fun for newcomers and veterans alike. The more I fly it, the more I enjoy it, and really appreciate the fact we’re cruising around with $200 motor/planes. Even more so now with double Daycare payments every month. I think it’s far closer to what Q-500 was intended to be.
I’ll remember the race Causey and I had as well as the one with Robert Williams for a long time…
Chop resurrected the Stubby and had the contest won if it weren’t for the extra round.
Lots of good stories.

astro turf... not really - our club has two nicely manicured grass runways, one basically northeast/southwest, and another that's east west. We keep it pretty short during the flying season, and the quickees don't seem to have much trouble at all with it.
Besides that, it's a lot easier on those three-point landings - two wheels and a muffler....

Great Race Guys!!!!!! I had a lot of fun. The grass does make for a forgiving landing. Although hitting the ground at full bore will leave a divot. Sorry for the divot I left guys. See some of you in Muncie. Rick

I want to thank Carl and all the guys that helped at the race. I really had a great time and we all really appreciate your hard work. The races keep getting better and better. For anyone that has not attended one of these races, put it on your calendar next year. The barnstormers really have a beautiful flying site and lots of participation. There are flyers of all skill levels and plenty of help for any new racers.
I'm still replaying that race with A.J.. I just waited until he turned, then I turned. Seemed like a solid plan at the time. I think next time I'll try to get a little lower to the ground coming out of pylon 3. That should do it.
We hope to see everyone at the KCRC race in a couple of weeks. We are expecting another great race.
Robert
