Default RC Barnstormers Fall Race 2008

Our club is putting together our second race for the year, to be held September 13th and 14th. 424 only on Saturday, 428 and 422 on Sunday. We're hoping to get enough 422 entries to make it a decent race - please let us know if you're interested, either via e-mail to myself via RCU, or our CD, Carl Melin, at rcmelin@comcast.net.

I'll try to upload a copy of the race flyer with a little more info, please e-mail or ask here if you've got any questions.

Our spring race was lots of fun, in spite of the rain! We had 21 entries for 424 only, and had a good time. Here's a pic of most of the guys from the spring race:

Not sure of the street address, but the gps coordinates are roughly 38°38'40.35"N 94°54'30.52"W

Looking forward to meeting you! I'll shoot an e-mail later on this evening, just got home from work.

Fizz,

Is there still a 424/428 race in Olathe next weekend (Aug 2/3)? I'll be up in the KC area and will be there w/ a 428 if y'all are flying.

No, sorry - this is the same fall race, just postponed. It's been so hot we're having trouble getting workers! We figured we'd be better off waiting till a little later when it's not so blasted hot. Right now it's in the mid 90's, and it's 6:30 PM - and it's supposed to be hotter tomorrow and this weekend..

After all, it's supposed to be fun..

Where did you hear about the august date? Just curious, want to make sure I cover all our bases..

Mid 90s - that's it?! Today is our first day under 90 for over 2 months. Dolly finally brought us a bit of cooler weather. If we postponed races waiting for cooler weather, we wouldn't race until Oct.

I heard about the race from AJ a few months ago. I've got family in the area, so I'm still going to make the trip. I'll get to see all the aunts/uncles/cousins, do a little mountain biking, drink some beer, etc.. How's you field's attitude for flying 428s on non-race day? If they're ok w/ it, I'll bring a plane or two and show the relatives what kind of insanity I enjoy.

Boy, I wish I could make it too! Just out of curiosity, what kind of RPM's do you get there, and what kind of times for a 475" course? I would guess 1:10 to 1:15?

Thanks, and have fun!

I'm sure we could accommodate a few flights of a 428 bird, I've done it.. Thursday evenings are typically set aside for race practice - we don't always put the poles up, but it's our night to practice if we want to, and enough people show up. This time of year, people are taking vacations, etc, and we don't always get much activitiy.

~16,500 on a decent day, and fast time at the last race was in the mid teens, if I remember correctly. I'd have to go look at results..

take that back - AJ had a 1:21 that day for the fast time.

Sure wish it had not ended up on the same weekend as our 424 race in Kingsbury TX. I would have liked to come up also.

Tell AJ I said Hi.

The invitation's open, if things don't work out for your race. Maybe next year we can all talk to each other in the whole central part of the country and get some more races scheduled that don't conflict. We just picked the 13th and 14th based on what some of the local guys had available.

No problem - it happens.

I might come any way if I was not the CD of our race!

Fizz,

That'd be great if we could all coordinate races and get together next year. I'm sure I can get up to the KC area at least once a season, maybe more, especially if more TX guys are going and want to carpool.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it for a Thurs night practice. I'm leaving here next Thur morning and won't be up there until after dark. If anybody's around to fly on any other day/night between Fri and Tues I'm sure I can make it.

Carl ( the CD) tells me that you can pre-register for the Barnstormers fall race at www.capsracing.com

Hope to see you there!

Yet another plug - we've got 15 pre-registered for 424 on Saturday already, and 7 for 428 on Sunday. C'mon out and play!

This will also be a great warm-up race for the CAPS Indy Shootout 2 weeks later.

How's that for a shameless plug Gordon? 2 in one post.

The Barnstormers put on a great race.

You won't regret throwing together a Viper and enjoying a day at this beautiful location...

AJ - thanks!

Carl and I finished wiring up the lights tonight after work, they work quite well. On our way to a first class racing setup for the area.

Looking forward to seeing you at the races!

and remember, it's two days - 424 only on Saturday, (15 pre-registered already, several more I know of that aren't yet pre-registered that have been out practicing), and 428 only on Sunday.

We've decided that 422 won't happen at this race, Sunday will be 428 only.

Hope to see you there!

We're hoping for a good turnout, should be fun. Hope to see some of the guys from Wichita come up for the race, too.

I'm also hoping the Kansas City race a little later on (hint - you can sign up at www.capsracing.com for that one, too) has a good turnout. AJ always throws a good race.

Unfortunately I am one local, that is not quite local at the present time. I wish I could be there but I will miss the RCB race and most likely the KCRC race. That makes three of the four local races that I had to miss this year.

Hope y'all have a good time, few cuts, and low times.

On a good note, at least I'll have one plane ready for next year.

HEADS UP!!

We may have to postpone our fall race for 1 week, the weather forecast is for rain all weekend this weekend, the fallout from the hurricane activity, etc.

I'm in touch with Carl Melin, the CD, and we'll be talking about this a little more later this evening. I will post an announcement here if we do postpone for a week.

Just wanted to let you guys that might be interested, and those who have pre-registered, that we might have to delay a week.

We realize this may screw up any travel plans for the few that were coming from further away, but we thought it would be better to get the word out tonight, rather than having people travel here to a rained out race, and try to get them to travel AGAIN the next weekend.

More later, as I know for sure.

Gordon
