Default New VIPER Rips.

First maden flights yesterday with the new Viper and very impressed. after all the talk of incidence settings of 0 -0 -0 i was abit confused as to where to set the V-Tail incidence from its factory settings so i took the gamble and raised the rear of tail by 1/16th inch, the engine and main wing settings were left alone, COG was set at the recommended distance with the fuel tank positioned at the c.o.g. position. first flight take off was great with some right rudder and some up elevator applied for torque reasons then off it went for the initial triming, [ 2 clicks of aileron only] and this model was flying hands free and level at both full power and half power.
as for control rates i had these set as per instructions for both high and lows but the low rates were not needed atall as turns were to slow with the low rate settings, especially elevators. we had a couple of guys from another club at the field with Vipers and have raced these quite often , they say out of there 4 vipers all are set at factory control settings with no shimes to the tail sections but i did notice 2 of the models having approx 1/16 of an inch of elevator up trim set which does mean that the rear should be shimmed to aleaviate this unwanted drag. another great thing for me was the comparison between the OS46 AX of mine to the Thunder Tiger Pro 46 , having a quick race with one guy the OS was faster by eye then the radar come out and straight line speeds proved the OS at 192 mph and the T.T. at 177 mph, mabe the T.T was abit worn i don,t know but the O.S. was great. might go and have a beer now to celebrate .

You sure about that?

Hi!
That must certainly be km/h! Thats what our .40 powered (Webra .40 GT) Vipers do over here with 10x6 RAM props and 80/20 fuel.

Freeair:

Guess there is some truth to the old addage "Would rather be lucky than good". Is that OS of yours for sale? Stuck my new 46 FX on my old Viper and got around 90 mph, wonder where that other 100 mph is?? For the past 3 years our club has been racing the WM T-34's, the same old geezer has taken #1 and using a TT 46 pro against a host of (around 10) OS 46s. Thats a lot of heats of racing in a year and a little more indicative of engine compairisons. Maybe the old geezer was the better pilot a few years ago (lots and lots of years ago) but the engine is about the only reasonable answer to how come the same guy wins every darn year. Guess they got mad cause no club trophies were given out this year. This year, they decided to club race the WM Sky Raider but quit for the season after the first race. Yea, old geezer won again. he he he he ENJOY

If you believe that, I have some Ocean Front property for sale in Arizona .... Only $20,000 sq/ft!! It is really rare! [8D]

woops , sorry guys for this incorrect info, KPH is correct not MPH. i was thinking of purchasing one of those T.T. PRO 46 engines to use with my back up Viper mod but seeing how good the OS AX goes i might grab another one.

Freeair,

Out of curiousity , what did you pay for your viper ?

I read somewhere they were going for around $350 australian dollars !!!!!!

And DO believe what you read when it comes to tail incedence, they all need shimming, you would think that GP would have fixed this issue by now.

Have fun.
