Default AMA 424 race in Bloomington, IL

OK, we are almost five weeks away from the SIRS/WIPRO Q-500 race in Bloomington, IL on June 26th and 27th. We will have AMA 424 with the Thunder Tiger 40 pro and we will have a Sport Jett 40 class. Saturday night will be a pulled pork dinner with cold drinks (donations accepted). We have some room to camp and limited electric. I am working on hotel rates. Please pre-register on q500424.com so we can plan for the food and things. Everyone that pre-registers and makes the race will get a SIRS/WIPRO racing embroidered hand towel. More to come. (no we do not have a stash of Powermaster we will have 15% Wildcat fuel)

I am definitely planning on coming, and hopefully I will have at least 5 guys with me. I had a great time flying with you guys at Muncie. Seems like the Wipro group is a good bunch of guys. And I know you guys eat good, at least you did in Muncie. Good luck next weekend at Cincinnati. We will be racing in Wichita.

Well we have 15 and counting for the June 26th and 27th race. I was able to get a block of 10 rooms with one queen bed for $50 a night. There is a baseball tournament in town the same weekend so the two queen rooms are first come first served at $60. It is less then twn minutes from the field, just ask for the SIRS rate. The rates are good tell 6-16 and you must cancel by 6-23. The Missouri gang is coming in full force. By the way I did see the "MOKAN rules and WIPRO drools" comment on a certain registration that was sent. I would hate to embarrass this person so he will remain anonymous. This will be short course racing. I will have the course up by 11:00 on Friday so feel free to come practice.

Jay,

You just let me know the source of this anonymous “MOKAN rules and WIPRO drools†comment.

I’ll let that exceptionally observant and eloquent originator of said SMACK know that while those simple words couldn’t be more accurate, as true sportsman we should not point out our competitors’ deficiencies so bluntly. Thanks for your understanding.

With that being said, I applaud you forethought in identifying the need for tear towels to help ease the WIPRO pain once the venerable Show-Me-Mo Racing Team leaves town with hardware safely packed down for a long journey home Sunday evening.

Looking forward to a great race.

OK we are still getting some registration in and we are at 18 pilots for the race. Another new addition is that we will be renting the LED system from the MOKAN group. Truth be told this is the main reason that the MOKAN guys were invited and to “fluff†the field with some easy competition. Some new towels have been ordered specifically for the MOKAN guys that are a little more fitting.

Jay,

That is very considerate, your hospitality is unequaled.

With 1/2 of the currently registered 18 coming from the great MOKAN series, the competition is sure to be great.

Rumor has it the Ulledahl clan (2) is also planning to add additional depth to the already staggering MOKAN skill level pool.

11 out of 20 will be nearly impossible odds for WIPRO, but your valor in the face of certain defeat is noble…

Yep...

DK,

Isn't Bloomington like 6 miles from your house? Why don't you come on out and race some 424 with us. Maybe demo that sweet looking EF1 Toni.

I think you owe me a steak dinner... [8D]

HEEEE, HEEEE, HEEEE, HO...HO...HO...

Serioulsy, it is like 7 miles, and 2.5 hrs away. I don't want to make any promises as Jack's 1st Travel B-Ball tourny is that weekend. IF we are done on Sat. I will make the trip on Sun. However, if they make it to Sun. I won't be able to make it.

Steak Dinner, and so much more!!!

Well, we'd love to have you. When I say love, I think you know what I mean big boy...

If not, that means Jack is kicking butt and that's a good thing too.

T-5 days until the epic battle between Good (MOKAN) and Evil (WIPRO) takes place in Bloomington, IL. 23 registered pilots for 424 should make for hotly contested event.

New racing venues are hard to come by and this local race needs your support. If you’re on the fence, please come on out. While we may talk a little smack on the internet, the open flow of information and help is always present come race day.

Personally, I slammed together a new RTC Viper last week. Test flights yesterday make me leery of entering it in IL. It was so fast I’m surprised the Ultracote didn’t rip right of the wings.

Lonnie’s new Seeker was equally as impressive on Saturday. Fortunately, he had the forethought to paint his wing to handle the ballistic heat generated during flight.

After taking an inventory of the race props I didn’t have enough. So with a call to APC they are sending more of their incredibly fast props for the race. Less than a week before the race and APC was on it – it’s great to have a company support us like they do! I have the football moms from a small town coming to work the course. The BBQ pork is ready to go for Saturday evening. Anyone have any special requests for side dishes for Saturday night?

Oh, AJ we peel the backing off our covering and use a covering iron to adhere the covering to the balsa. Whatever you are doing must be working. We are excited to see just how fast that Viper is – while we are safely off the course waiting for you to finish the heat.

Ok, I'm one of the ones on the fence. Yesterday, I found the carcass remains of an old Revolution in the attic, I'm feverishly working on gluing it all back together. Unfortunately, I have a mean boss, that wants me to travel and work late hours this week. Keeping my fingers crossed for some 424 racing this weekend.

Here are the results from the weekend. I can’t give much of a report on what happened as I was somewhat overwhelmed with keeping track of the staff and things. I can tell you that we had some bumping on the course but did not lose any airplanes. Saturday had 21 registered and Sunday had 18. We waited for some rain to pass on Sunday morning so we did not fly Sport Jett but got 5 rounds of 424 in by 1:00 I think. I want to thank everyone one more time for making the trip. Also to A.J. and the MOKAN Group for letting us rent the light system, APC for the props, the Lexington Football Booster Club for working and SuperT for the neat EF-1 kit that Jim Nickodom won.

Sport Jett:
Mike Deneve 20 1:11.16
Jim Nikodem 17 1:15.80
Bernie Vanderleest 16 1:13.75
Duane Hulen 12 1:12.46
Rick Vogelsang 8 1:30.76
Jay Cappis 7 1:17.95

Saturday 424:
Duane Hulen
Bernie Vanderleest
Lonnie Finch

Sunday 424:
Bernie Vanderleest
Jim Nikodem
Tom DeGroodt

There were lots of Vipers, maybe half. Then a mix of Snakers, Hurrikanes, Seekers and personal designs. The Viper wing seams to be a popular choice though.
