Thanks Djlyon,
Just been on the web site of the nationals over there in USA.
Sounds like there was alot of fun, & great flying going on.
Some good photos to look at, & I see there was alot of midairs!
But thats racing. Just wondering why they only run 428 Q500 racing
& Q40 but not 424 Q500 class racing??

Lots of us wonder the same thing.

Several years ago A keen advocate of 424 was trying to promote 424 at the US Nats. He took a survey on this Forum. He got three positive replies.

How many 424 fliers were at this years Nats to check it out and try to promote their event?

What would they have done? Carry signs and demonstrate:D. Sorry Ed I'm just being silly. Actually you are right. And in addition there are few places, groups, or what ever that fly 424 exactly per the rule book. And these groups fly rules that are in each case unique. And that's probably as it should be if 424 is to be a racing promotion event. And that Vendata is probably the real answer to your question.

Hi Guys!
Here in New Zealand we run three classes of racing where I live, & that is in the south Island
of New Zealand one of the coldest parts. Any way we race a Sportsmans class of pylon with any airframe as long as it has a under carriage & with a legal 46 size engine. This gives guys that are interested a chance to have a go at flying the course. The next class we race is
what you guys call 424 racing but again with a 46 size engine. The other class we run is Q40 usually with the Nelsons or Jetts! We here also have a Nationals once a year with, Sportsman class, Q500 Sportsman class, (424) & Expert Q500 class (428) & Q40 class.
All above classes only gets raced if there is enough entrants.

I just don't see how you'd ever fit in another event. It seemed the course officials were already there from 8am til 4:30 or 5pm.... for 5 days straight. They'd probably stick it out for another 2 days so you could run 424...? or just change the whole format and go back to running one huge matrix, and do away with the qualifying and finals program.. not sure?

Hi Guys, from what I have read on the Q500 424 class racing its got more competitors than your 428 class of racing. Cheaper to fly 424 class of racing than 428 isn't it?
If you guys perhaps had two extra days of racing, you could run 424 at your Nats.
Should perhaps work it, that the two or three best flyers of 424 & 428 racing at each state club events, fly at the nats, that would mean you wouldn't have to qualify to race at the nats.

I don't believe the NMPRA, AMA, or anybody else for that matter would have a problem with 424 being run at the Nats.

What we need is some individual to step up and say that they will CD and organize the race.

Find someone willing to CD that event and I don't see any reason it couldn't be added to other two.

Yo guys, Just back from the NATS.....Unbelievable......I didn't race - but I did call...and observed for the first time- the BIG SHOW!!!!!

Yea bowwweeeeee! If there was a way to run 424 at the NATS I would definitely be there.....But like Randy says - not sure how they'd pull that off.

It was action paced and the course workers were amazing..Not to mention the racing......Not sure they could do another 2 days of 424....I would certainly be willing to do whatever I could to help out. Lap counter, pole judging, trash detail, whatever I could......Count me in....

The format of the NATS was PERFECT........Nice to see all the "BIG DAWGS" racing and dukin it out.....Lil pecker heads like me were awed....!!

Yet amazingly calm!! LOL

Vendata... Don't believe everything you read boss. 428 racing is as strong as every! 424 is certainly a "cheaper" way to race, but I'd jump to say that "cheap" people are not going to spend the $1200 - $1500 dollars to travel to the Nats. If they would, why not just use those funds and fly the 428 class..

There may be some areas across the country that have more 424 racers than 428, but there are just as many or more of those areas that only get 4 or 5 "424" guys at a race.

The very fact that a racer from New Zealand is the only person on this forum promoting a 424 NATS is indicative of the interest here.
