Evo .61 vs. OS 55
Hi,
I have an Extra 300 that i am putting together and need to select an engine for it. I want supreme power for speed and aerobatics and an engine that i can put in an airplane designed for speed later on.
Would you all suggest the Evo .61 or the OS (.55 or .61)? What engine is better designed for speed and fit decently well within a 40-50 size airplane?

RE: Evo .61 vs. OS 55
you asked my opinion so here goes....I wouldn't buy an Evo....based on the problems I have seen trying to tune an Evo 46...although I have not seen the problems with the bigger Evo's...I like OS...

RE: Evo .61 vs. OS 55
My two cents:
If this is a 40-size aircraft, the 55AX is a no-brainer. Listing on Tower at $159, take the $20 off $139 coupon code (011H4) and the 55AX is less than the 60NX.
IMHO, Horizon is making the EVO engines up to be way more than what they are, which is just another Chinese engine dolled up in a funky casting. I don't think the pre-running is worth the premium they are charging for them over a like displacement Magnum. This is not to say they are a poor engine at all, I had an EVO46NT that was a great engine. I just wouldn't spend that kind of money on a house-brand engine.

RE: Evo .61 vs. OS 55
If this is for a 40 size bird then opt for a .55 OS AX, Or a J'En 57. Both are based on 46 size crankcases and produce loads of power for their weight. If the plane requires a .60size engine then rather opt for a .75 OS AX since it uses a similar sized crank case.
.60 size engines are rather portly for the power they produce.
