Default emergency chute

Has any one ever made a emergency parachute for their airplane and if so what sort of system have you used to deploy the chute.

Default RE: emergency chute

There actually use to be a commercial chute system you could buy, but people found that it's just not practical.

If your wing folded at a high altitude you might have time to think about deploying it, but most accidents happen too close to the ground for it to be of any use.

TT76,

I agree with Mike.
The parachute and the deployment divice add weight and take space.

It also requires an ideal plane attitude to work properly; which seldom happens in an emergency situation.
For similar reason, recovery parachutes for rockets get tangled frequently.

It may be worth for big and expensive models.

Years ago there were guys out in AZ drag racing 60 size ugly stick planes (wings off),, they ran them full throttle down the runway and hit the Chute to stop them.
Pro Fliers near Phoenix. What a show

Yes, Wildcat fuels made one called a paracat. I bought the last two. Mainly used on purpose to just bring your plane down with the chute. It was a turtle pod on top of a high wing trainer type 40 size plane. I wish someone would remake them. I posted pictures of mine on here somewhere. Pretty neat system. I'm just now getting one of my old crashed trainers back together to try to use one of them!
