How do you transport your planes to and from the flying field?
i'm wondering what kind of contraptions are being used for transporting your planes to your local flying club. I'm not looking towards those of you that have an enclosed trailer I'm looking for those that load 2, 3, or 4 planes into the back of your pickup and get to and from (without the hanger rash).
Any pictures would be appreciated.

I have a 4-door truck so I fold the back seat down flat and haul what I can back there. For other stuff, I made a rack out of PVC that I can screw down in the bed of the truck. I padded it with pipe insulation and hold the fuselages and wings with bungees that also have a little pipe insulation on them.Big stuff just sits in the bed with some sandbags over the wheels and maybe a padded bungee across the tail.

Honda civic towing a trailer box built on a harbor freight frame. The box is 4w x 10l x 3h. Less than 500lbs fully loaded for a days flying. 31mpg without the trailer, 27mpg with the trailer. I just couldnt afford to use my F350 dually, 4x4, diesel anymore. The truck only moves when its hauling or towing.

I have a 1999 Ford ranger with an aluminum commercial camper on it, its great couse Ive got one wing rack in it now, plus i plan to build another rack soon,I can carry 3-4 planes comfortably at a time plus my large field box. Ive got locks to the side doors which are solid, and Ive got the back glass tinted so dark you cant see whats inside of it. Plus the best thing of it is my woman is embarresed by it and wont ride in it so i dont ever have to worry bout her wanting to use my truck. its great I love it.

I use a Ford Focus Hatchback to carry my planes. My flight box fits nicely on the floor in front of the right front seat.

Thanks for some of the ideas. I have a 3/4 ton Chev with a rack over the cab and a fifthwheel hitch in the bed. I can remove the hitch but a camper shell isn't very practical. Trying to come up with something that will keep things all in one place so the wind wont bounce them around. I like the trailer but if I come up with one more thing to park at my house I don't think the city will like it much. Thinking of building a box to slide in the back of the truck that I can close the lid on.

My former hauler was a F350 dually with a camper shell on it. I built a carport with a crank pulley system inside, and have eye bolts on the top of the camper shell. This is used to raise and lower the shell when needed. And your right, its a pain. But was all I had at the time. When diesel hit $2.25 I bought the honda civic cause I couldnt afford the 60 mile a day commute anymore. The gas savings from the truck made half my car payment, now paid off. I cant imagine what the cost to drive my truck would be now. My advantage is living rural, nobody bothers me about number of trailers and such nonsense. That truck only moves when its towing my flat bed (tractor, hay, or car), travel trailer, or hauling large things in the bed. Under 1000lbs is hauled by my civic. The airplane trailer can be man handled easily anyplace I want.
