Default Engine size

Question for you all..... would a 90 2-stroke engine be equil to a 120 4-stroke engine

Possibly. What plane are you looking to put it in?? What type of flying will it be doing??

Engine going on an older "Big John Bi Plane" Just doing general easy flying... nothing fancy

Could be but you should have stated the weight of plane. Maybe next time try giving more info.

Generally speaking, yes. In your application (if money allows) I would opt for the 1.20 4-stroke.

A lot depends on the engines too. These days the new four strokes have come up on power so there is no set rule of thumb to compare. I have an older OS 1.20FS that has been rebuilt but still doesn't have the torque of the newer ones. I have several of the older YS 1.20s and you would be hard pressed to find a .90 two stroke that can pull a plane around as well as any of them. With most bipes you usually need the added weight in the nose too, I would rather have it engine weight instead of lead.
