The plates are very close together in these these of batteries. When they are puffed the containment and protection has gone. A bump can set them off. People have lost there cars and houses to these battery fires. If it is charged up it is dangerous. You need a new battery. Also because of the chemistry, water feeds the fire, so you have to have a fire extinguisher to put it out.

RE: puffing lipo battery!!!!!!!
The chemicals that make up any battery will eventually wear out or fail. Soemtimes by age, overuse, abuse, damage, etc. Lipos are fraigil, and can be damaged easily. They need to be charged with the correct charger at the correct rates. Lithium burns on contact with the water in the air, so breaching the casing can be dangerous. Lipos are normally damaged by incorrect charging. No matter what anyone tells you, lithium xxx batteries need to be balanced charged every time. Out of balance cells may be the number one killer. there is really no way to know what cause a lipo to puff, but when they do gases are being released internally and the battery should be discarded in the appropiate manor.
I have never seen or heard of one flaming while in storage. I have personaly had 4 catch fire on me, one that should have burnt down my garage, i was very lucky. 3 of those were charging errors, one happened when i puntured the foil case. these were all learning curve mistakes several years ago when we were all learning how to handle them.
Lipos have come down in price greatly, my advise is not to take a chance. Replace them when they puff.
