Default specktrum AR 8000 reciever

I bought one last week from a online hobby shop here in the states. I ordered the DSMX version. I recieved the package on sat. I opened box and it was the AR 8000 but the box said DSM2 and the sticker on the reciever said the same. This hobby shop and horizon show a DSMX sticker. I called the hobby shop and they said it is a DSMX reciever and was released just about the time the DSMX came out and didnt have the DSMX stickers on it. He assured me it was a DSMX reciever. I am on the phone with horizon now but on hold. Anyway is there anyway i can tell if it really is a DSMX reciever?

I am sending in my 9303 in today for the DSMX upgrade and i am borrowing a 9503 DSMX transmitter today. Will the trans say it is DSMX once it is bound? I dont want to put any power to this reciever till i found out for sure what it is?

From what I have read
a DSMX TX is backward compatible to a DSM2 RX. Try binding the DSMX RX to the DSM2 TX if it works it is DSM2 not DSMX. The DSMX RXs are not backward compatible.

Ok i went to garage and the AR 8000 bound to my 9303 DSM2 trans. i called the guy and he said they are backwards compatable ie:

A DSMX reciever will bind with a DSM2 transmitter but will only be in DSM2 mode. I was under the impression they would not bind that way at all. what gives?

Ok, what I read was confusing and I guess I was wrong; sorry for the error. It is good that they will work in either mode. I learned something. I was going to send my DX7 in for upgrade but I was waiting tillall the issues were ironed out.So the lesson here is that you cannot tell if it is DSMX or not.

Just to be clear, ALL AR8000's regardless of how they were packaged, are DSMX

DSMX Tx + DSMX Rx = DSMX bind
DSM2 Tx + DSMX Rx or DSM2 Rx + DXMX Tx = DSM2 bind.

Dont mix and match satalite recievers, if you have an AR7000 you need a DSM2 satalite, if you get a 7010 or 9010 or whatever, it needs DSMX satalites.

sometimes i hate RCU lol I just typed up a long post and it timed out with an error. lol

Anyway confirmed with horizon.

All AR 8000's are DSMX
All DSMX recievers will bind with a DSM2 transmitter but will on be in DSM2 mode
All DSM2 recievers will bind with a DSMX transmitter but will on be in DSM2 mode
