4*40 tailwheel
I am in need of finding a good replacement tailwheel assembly for my 4*40. We fly from a dry lake bed and even though it is fairly smooth, I can see I am putting way too much stress on the rudder. If anybody has any experience with replacing theirs, please let me know which brand or style you used.
Thanks in advance,
T.

tsawyer148, I didn't even try to use the one that came with it. I bought a Sullivan and it works great and mounts easily. I used some 1/8 ply to reinforce the mounting area. Mine is a .60 size but I'm sure Sullivan makes a smaller one. I fly from a dry-lake also and use a 1 1/2" wheel which helps handle the cracks.

4*40 tailwheel
I used a Sullivan 40 size tailwheel on my 4*40, it broke after a few too many trips off the pavement. Replaced it with a 60 size and it is holding up great after about 2 gallons of fuel with lots of landings. I used (4) 4-40 wood screws directly into the fuse bottom. Have fun, Mike

4*40 tailwheel
Ended up going with the Sullivan brand on the plane. Worked great and was very easy to install. Now I have another problem though, I discovered after my last flight last weekend that I have a broken hinge on the elevator. Oh well, back to the repair shop..
