It's pretty standard to test a new transmitter with a plane you wouldn't be too upset to wreck. A range test from multiple angles, then an engine on range test will weed out 99% of problems, then a day of test flying with a beater plane verifies it.

There's a service bulletin from Horizon on the DX8. I had to send mine in before I even got to charge the darn thing. So pilot error and range check issues aside, it would be nice if comsumers didn't have to find the problems with new products. Not just my new radio, but my new refridgerator, washing machine, spice grinder and lawn sprinkler.[:@]
The DX8 seems to work great now, just a little disconcerting.

I fly once in a while with a race pilot that is sponsored by JR. During a BS moment he told me he wasn't going to be using any of the radios they give him for a while, he will stick with his old upgraded gear. His worry is, after the flooding and problems in Japan he wasn't sure where the components for there gear were going to be made or if they had any problems at all? He had gotten no word from JR at that time and didn't know if they were OK or not. He just wasn't taking any chances.
However, the OP tried two of the top radios, both JR and Futaba and had problems. That makes me wonder, well, that and what Tom mentioned, is this an operator malfunction?? Sounds more like it but strange things do happen. Sort of like not reading the instructions.
