Can I narrow up a carbon fiber gear by making it two piece?
Any problems with making a single piece carbon fiber landing gear two piece? I'm building a scratch build and ordered an 8" wide gear and was forced to narrow up the fuselage to seven inches and would like to cut it in the middle and make it a two piece unless doing so is an issue.

You'll be creating a weak spot in the middle if you don't reinforce the joint. I'd think you could cut an inch out of the middle and then epoxy on a CF doubler on the bottom to keep it from folding.

Done all the time in F3A, for example

scroll down to post 82.
I've done it on several models, no problems.

I have done several comp arfs with seperate carbon gear. I usually sandwich the gear between two pieces of ply & use two bolts thru each gear leg. Easy to remove & install & so far very structurally sound....Gene
