Default Cleaner

I am looking for a cleaner that wont be too hard on the covering on my planes..I understand that anything with ammonia is not very good for them..I have been using Windex but that has amonia..I heard about Glass Plus here on line but I havent been able to find any so far.. I did find some called Green Works..It has Ethanol in it..Does anybody know anything about it? Is ethanol okay or is it hard on covering too? I suspect ethanol might be even worse because it is sort of like Alcohol but maybe if its weak enough...Thanks for any thoughts on this

Are you looking for a cleaner after you fly? I use Simple Green. A gallon is about 10 bucks and makes a lifetime worth when diluted. I keep a small spray bottle full in my field box.

I have been using a mixture of ammonia and water for many years with no problems to the covering (Monocote and Ultracote).
I have been mixing approx 1 part ammonia to 25-30 parts water. [8D]

I use windshield washer fluid with a little Dawn Dish Soap added. Been using it for years and it"s cheap. Good Luck, Dave

I have been using Windex for maybe 30 years and have never noticed a negative with it.

Whatever spray you use if you'll buy a microfiber rag to wipe with you'll get your planes cleaner with much less effort. I do an initial wipe down with no spray at all and the microfiber cloth gets the covering squeaky clean by itself. I'll hit it with some of the orange oil spray cleaner to make sure the seams are clear of residue before putting the planes in storage.

Thanks Guys...I like the Idea of using microfiber rags because if I can wash them out it will save on the paper towels that I use now..My covering gradually comes loose around the edges in places..I dont know if it's the amonia or not..It didnt matter much before because I always built all my planes and when I cover I lap by about 1/2 " but I bought a couple of ARF's and it seems like they only lap there covering by about 1/16" , maybe 1/8" Tops so when it starts to come loose you better get on it pretty quick or you are in trouble...I will try the Dawn too..Thanks again

I use rubbing alcohol and paper towels - no problem with covering.  I buy two qts at Sam's club for $3.  I just put a spray top on the bottle. Cuts oil very well.

Alcohol is the ticket. I actually buy the 91% which is still cheap and cut it 50% with water and use old hand towels and wash those to use again. Works great and very low cost.

Or you could just steal your mates cleaning gear and get the wife to do it
