FM Interference
Has anyone had any one flown near a commercial radio station transmitter site and had problems. Yesterday a friend and I plannned on flying at a new site which is a mile or less from a commercial radio station transmitter site (100K watt FM). He nearly lost his plane, fortunately he managed to get is safely back down in one piece.
The only explanation we could think of why the plane acted the way it did (nearlly out of control from the time it left the ground) was the proximity to the FM transmitter tower. We noticed nothing unusual while the plane was on the ground. He was using a 72mhz system.

Yes, being in close proximity to a high powered RF source, even if it is not on your frequency, can saturate the front end of your receiver. It is a remote possibility that that is what happened to your friend.
