Easy to build, easy to fly, fun to fly, great plane, loved the 3 of mine. Do not fly to low inverted, then pull full up, that is how #1 ended. Was very exciting for 1/2 of a second.
Put a 60 in it and have fun. I wore the treads out on my second one. I started with treaded wheels and ended up with smooth tires I flew it so much.
Buzz.

As the fellows have already said Rye absolutely a superb choice for both a second airplane and as an airplane to get started in learning to build.
Also Kudos to you for making the effort to help your son learn to build.
I had one fellow that I had been helping show up with one of those which he installed a Jett barstock 90 and retracts.
I did enjoy that maiden and the subsiquient flights[8D]
By the way they are not ugly they are handsome in a workman like way

Its just a Marvelous aeroplane... and not just as a low wing trainer as you'll find out.
If you want to do some small custom tweeks:
• drop the engine thrust line about an inch lower
• make the rudder 50-75% larger (you decide, just make it bigger) and use pull-pull
• don't use a single push rod driving one side of the elevator, instead use a Y elevator push-rod and drive both from the servo.
• If you want (I did) make it as a tail dragger.
If the supplied ply pieces for the fire wall look/feel a bit soft (various qualities IMO) and make a new one out of real 1/4" marine ply instead of the supplied. Same applies for the UC mount if you decide to go the tail dragger route.
Just remember, this one you want to build with dihedral... not because of stability, because of roll coupling.
You'll need a good .61-91 and if you build and set it up straight, then work in a couple of small mixes... your son will have a problem getting his hands on it.
Daddy's just found his favourate plane- It's that good.

I agree, I had a 40 size and I loved, LOVED it. I have a 8 year old that I just got on the buddy box and maybe we will build two of them together at the same time )).

I'll bet my Dewey is uglier. I mean REALLY uglier. They dont get much uglier than the Dewey. Imagine a big stick tail on a long fuse with a large square wing mounted on wires. Thats the Dewey.
