saito 82 props
I picked up a Cap 580 at a swap meet and it has a good FA.82 on it. Nice engine , lots of power and good compression.
I was wondering what was the prop size recommends for that engine.
Plus I need to know the max rpm also, most saito's I thought were 10K, I generally set them to 9 K on the ground.
thanks

G'day Mate,
Have a look here, this data seems the best all round for Saito's.
http://saito-engines.info/prop_sizes.html
Lots of good info here as well.
Cheers

RE: saito 82 props
I have run a few different props on my 82. When it was on a profile I really likes the 15x4 Zinger Pro series wood. When It was on a Funtana 50 I ran a 14x4W APC. The Zinger is a better fit IMHO, but it can be a problem with ground clearance on some models. The APC is almost as good. It's a little heavier but still has good spool up. If there is any issue with the APC, it's that it almost too small for the 82. You mentioned RPM and the APC can let the 82 over rev. At least for me. I have not tached mine in years, but I think it was in the 10,300 range if memory serves me. That is running Power Master 15% nitro. Our site is also 2,000 ASL. RPM will be less with the Zinger Pro, but can't quote you a tach reading.

RE: saito 82 props
I ran some test today. I use the fish scale method, I know its not the best but its my only way to test pull.
13x8 apc I get 4.5 lbs of pull, and it will over rev. if I let it.
13x9 I could not get over 9.1K rpm
14x8 plastic master airscrew would not trun over 7.2K rpm 4 lbs pull.
14x6 wood master airscrew would not turn over 9 K rpm.
The motor seems to have good compression and good low end idle. I am thinking of checking the valves settings.
I will have to get some more sizes and try it again.
It flys ok on the 13x8 apc, just would like a little more thrust.

More thrust, lower pitch. Sounds like you scored on a good engine. You can get the rpm range in the engine forum, even has a Saito factory support there you can ask questions directly to Saito people. There is also a prop chart sticky in the beginners forum. {I think!} It could be in the kit building forum? Sounds like you are doing testing already so you will find that magic prop pretty soon on your own.

RE: saito 82 props
Yes, I should have it soon. I just need to pick up some more props when I get a chance.
I will go and look at the charts.
dave said a 14x4 worked for him, I will pick up a 14x4 and a 14x5 to try. One of those should do the trick.
I might get a 14x6 in the apc, it may turn better than the master airscrew
thanks

I do use spinners and they still require a spacer on my YS engines. YS is the only make I have used them on though so it may be different with another brand? It isn't a big deal but worth mentioning in advance so it isn't a surprise at the field. The Ws seem to have a lot better pull for vertical and hover. I like them a lot but they aren't always in stock at my LHS. They are worth ordering if the op finds his magic prop size.

RE: saito 82 props
I ordered the suggested props, I should test them next week.
I was using a metal spinner, but went with a weighted prop nut to move the cg forward.
thanks
