I installed a remote glow plug set up and when I try it it doesnt work.
The ground wire is attached to the engine . After I remove the plug wire , when I take a voltage reading
from the positive lead and to the ground wire. I show 1.5 volts Then I install the plug into the glow plug wire
and touch the plug to the ground wire it doesnt light up Any ideas ????

G'day Mate,
Check the plug, with your glow driver or multimeter, & make sure the battery is fully charged, 1.5 volts does not mean you have enough current to make the plug glow.
And what turns the glow driver on? Is it connected & set up properly with the radio, be aware most electronic switches, switch the negative, so when you test the output with your meter,
you will get a false reading to earth.

If it is all wired right, it has to be a bad plug, or a battery with not enough juice to light the plug. Good Luck, Dave

Or the remote connector is not making full contact with the plug.

Or you have a high resistance connection somewhere, check all crimps and/or solder joints.

Is the wire guage too small for the application???? A glow plug will draw amps of current.

I was not going to comment because I have never had a remote glow driver situation. I have read that some or all have a switch in the system to turn the glow plug on at some low RPM. That switch, or its specific location, might have a problem.

I make my own remote glow drivers and sometimes if they are a bit too long, if the battery is just a bit too low it doesn't have enough poop to heat up the plug so I use the old power panel set on high.

The plug and the and the battery are good. I am using one of those glow plug ignitors with a new alkaline battery in it, and when I put it right to the plug ,
it glows like you cant believe. Then I put it in the remote set up with the plug and wire off the engine and try, and ground it to the
ground lead nothing ... Sometimes a very faint glow it does get 1.5 volts ! It is a hanger 9 brand 3025 brand new .
This is not a unit that turns it self on. You plug a wire into the side of the fuse and plug your ignitor into that plug. Maybe its
just not making a good ground connection with out having the glow plug mounted into the engine ?? Can I get more power from My glow plug set up
on my field box ? I cant try that now because I lost the wire for that set up. Thats why I bought the new portable ignitor ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Try changing the location of the ground wire....you might not have a good ground.

As skid mentioned, it could be the ground. Yes, you can get more juice from the power panel. Only time I use mine is during the winter when it is cold or I have forgot to charger up my glow stick. I had problems with the store bought remote glow drivers getting loose and falling apart so I started making my own using mono jacks from radio shack and have never had a bad one yet or one that comes apart with use. They are also smaller and gives me a cleaner look. Check all the wires.

It could be the ground, but the everything is new glow plug , engine, wires, battery and the ignitor!! Nowhere closer or better to mount the ground on a saito 180 golden knight ????
I think they want you to put the ground directly on the head. But you cant on this model engine it has got those gold valve covers not the normal head Any other ideas out there ???

Be sure the case is clean where you are grounding wire bolts up

Are the surfaces anodized? If they are, the anodizing MUST be removed, because it is NON conductive.

As Les said the finish on the GK series will not let the ground make good contact. You may have to scrape a little finish off under the ground wire. The other thing that came to mine(please don't think I am insulting your intelligence) I saw a guy the just pushed the boot down on the plug like a spark plug wire and could not get his to work. The lead wire has to be pulled back while the boot is being pushed on.

You may have a point about the anodizing. I will scrape some away.
As far as the boot and insulting me NEVER because we all learn things at different
times in our lives. I did install it correctly. Iam just getting back into the hobby as my one plane
has been hanging for about five years... it fired right up
