Did you seal it or is it just the latex? I know latex is not glow resistant, but someone said it holds up to gas.

Latex does not require a clear coat when flying gas.

You aren't adding anything "foreign" to the product that way.
Tom,
You words resonated withe me a little this week, I'm in the middle of a project, and was using Olympic Ceiling paint as a primer under the Orange, as you know the grey primer changes the tone of red/yellow/orange shades, ,, anyway I was having issues finding the right mix withe the DA and the Olympic paint so I tried straight water, for that brand paint water actually worked better than the DA.

So I decided to try starting water with the Behr again and found the right balance,, 50/50 paint to water seams to be working well,, takes about 5 mist coats to cover through the airbrush,

Goal is to turn this, into this

The best thing i have found so far for cleaning a latex painted plane is this:
http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/produc...-detailer-32oz
It does not effect the paint and will even clean off those nasty, hard to remove fly specs.

Well happy to say I have the fuse done. Still going to clear coat it though since I may still run glow on it, undecided yet. What I have found is a damp rag will remove the paint if I rub it hard enough. Could just be the paint, next time will try the Behr instead.

Quite happy with how it turned out. Going to let it sit a few weeks as its only in the 60's down there. Then hit it with a coat of clear KK, do the insignia, and a final coat of KK to seal it in.

Lookin' Good.

Behr will do the same with a damp rag, that is exactly why i use the Meguiers polish.

Cya,
One of the things that I learned in my 30+ years of manufacturing latex paint was not to introduce anything foreign to the formulation.

Like you, I found that a 1:1 mix of paint to water works well for spraying.

I doubt that it does.

We used tap water to make the paint. There's no need to use distilled water to thin, as the end user.

If you can drink it, you can thin with it.

RUM! That would make an excellent thinner. No worry on a mask, get drunk inhaling the overspray.

J/K, dont try this at home kids, we are what you call professionals.

Steve, I was once told that for the movie Tora Tora Tora they bashed the AT-6 Texan to make them look like Japanese planes? Not sure about that. I do recall as a younger person I was surfing at Huntington Beach and seeing the planes flying overhead during the filming? Not sure where or what they were filming but it was cool seeing squadrons of fighters flying over head.

They were T-6 dressed up. I think I recall seeing one at Oshkosh decades ago too.

Any idea on how much weight is added using latex. It must be heavier than film, but how much?

Not much at all once it dries. Rustoleum weighed in at at least 4 times the weight. I painted 2 coats on my Chipmunk and that thing is heavy, the Corsair weighs about as much as it did prior to painting. I used really light coats.

Done right you'll be amazed out thin it really goes on with the airbrush, figure dry paint weighs slightly less than wet paint, water used to thin almost 100% evaporates out, so I'd guess about 1 wt.oz per 1 fl.oz. I painted that whole world models zero 80" span plane and have only used half of each 4oz jar of paint. I'll probably end up using about 3 fl.oz of the satin clear WPU. So In my mind the extra 7-8 wt.oz for that plane is nothing for that size plane.
