Default Color changing covering?

Hello all,

I've posted a similar post on another forum, but thought I might take advantage of the combined wisdom/experience here.

Recently purchased a plane from a member of another club, and am very happy with it. Obviously I asked him what the material was and he is not the one who covered it, so hasn't a clue.

It was an ARF that was recovered, and a good job of it. The fuselage is done in what I believe to be either Ultracote or Monokote, BUT, and this is the kicker, it looks like different colors depending on the light and/or angle at which one views it.

At first glance it may look brown, but then moving to a slightly different angle it appears gold/bronze/copper/green/purple, even almost red.

At first I thought it might be one of the pearl colors, but do not think they change through such a broad spectrum.

Does anyone know what this stuff is? I expect it may have been available at some time in the past but no longer current.

All the best,
Mike

Is the model covered, or painted ?

Dupont has a paint that performs as you have described.

Nope, some type of iron-on covering such as Monokote or Ultracote.

I worked at a place that used color changing, self adhesive, vinyl, on skateboards. It was thick, and heavy. I have not seen a vinyl product suitable for modeling use, however.

OK, had a bit of sunshine so took a few shots to try and show the 'color shifting.' Please see attached.
