Anybody put a 60, on a balsa USA north star
Hi guys, I have a balsa usa north star. I only fly it with wheels. I have a 46 OS in it. My problem is , getting it off the ground, I can't get enough speed . The grass at our field is very short, I tried a 10x7, 10x6 and a 10x8, the 10x7 is the best. The 2 or 3 times I did get it off the ground , it flew great and plenty of power, but it's real hard to get off the ground. I put bigger and tried smaller wheels, no help, the plane is about 9 1/2 lbs. Can I put a 60 on it with a 3 blade prop? Thank you for any help you can give me.

Not sure what your gear arrangement is but if you can move the main gear forward a bit closer to the actual CG you will be able to rotate a bit sooner to a higher deck angle which is what a delta needs for t/o. Helped a fellow with one of these some years back same problem and solution.

Nine and half pounds WOW that is heavy for something running a 46. You can play around with props all day but that is always going to be very marginal off grass.
I would go ahead and put a 60 in it. Up the wheel size. Try a 12 x 5

If memory serves me correctly I do not believe that a 12 inch prop is an option without cutting some sort of channel. When Mr. Mikulasco (spelling) designed the dedicated land version (enforcer) he turned the engine around and designed a long channel cutout in the wing for the prop. So Joe if you do go with a sixty This is one of the few times you will ever hear me suggesting a three blade would be useful.
In the meantime getting the mains footprint just a tad forward and closer to the Cg will give you more pitch authority sooner.

60 on North star
I put the OS 60 in the plane, and bent the landing gear fowarding to the CG. The 60 was 9oz heavier then the 46, so had to ad more weight in the nose. Can't fly for 2 weeks with the president playing golf, will let you know how it works out. Thank you for all your help.
