Default Pitts style muffler for Top Flite Corsair 60

I am in the process of rebuilding a TF Corsair 60. One of the problems I had is that on a landing, the plane nosed over and bent over and broke one of the exhaust stacks on the slimline muffler. I tried JB welding it back together, but the heat generated by the engine caused it to break apart again, sucking in air and messing up the engine operations. Anyone out here have an ideal of how to re-attach the exhause stack. I could take it to a machine shop and they could probably weld the aluminum stack back on the muffler, but I've been told the cost would be about the same as buying a new one. J-Tec makes a pitts style muffler with flexible exhaust stacks that would not break on a nose over should this happen again. Anyone have a similar set-up of this nature and what are you using for a exhaust. Thanks Cary

Try your local welding supply house and see if they have a low heat aluminum solder, If you have a butane torch and some good acetone you could probably re solder it back on. remember that ACETONE IS VERY FLAMMABLE. So let it dry first. You have to get the oil out of the aluminum before you can re solder it together, aluminum absorbs heat very quickly and you might end up with what is called Hot short which is when the aluminum melts. Next time cut your stacks shorter and use a muffler extension so when it noses over it won't break the pipes.
Take a look at My corsair.

Default Pitts Muffler

Onewinglow: Thanks for your reply. Check your email. I have some additional questions about the Pitts muffler. Specfically, about cutting off the extensions and affecting engine performance. Will it affect the engine without the shunts on the end of the extensions ? I have the Slimline muffler. Liked your Corsair in your website.

Thanks Cary
