retracts
I am ordering the 63 inch Mosquito from anglia model center in England, and was wondering what type of retracts to put in it. (it comes with wire gear) The plane runs on . 25 engines. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks Loren

Sparky,
I looked at the kit again, and the retracts do swing aft. What type of retracts are these? Also, they appear to have two struts per wheel. Thanks Loren

Retracts
I'm not sure who makes the mossie retracts. I have seen the TF DC-3 retracts and they might work you would have to take measurements. Comments on the DC 3 gear from the threads I have seen are luke warm so perhaps unless some one has some availabel from a wreck you might look else where.
The normal retract MFG would be the most likely place to start your search. They will not be cheap. Quick and dirty you might consider two nose wheel retraxcts they would go aft but most are not designed for full landing loads.
The Uravich Bronco has main gear that swing aft look there as well.
The first thing you need is the kit in hand so you know what the diminsons yoiu need to work with. Maybe the kit mfg may have some ideas as well.
Any one else jump in here with there ideas.
It might be worth while to build one with fixed gear which would be lighter and less complex then make another one using the parts from the first kit as templates. I would bet you could scratch build another copy that would weigh the same with retracts, simply by using lighter wood in the areas that don't need the weight.

elmshoot,
In a previous post you made the following statement:
"I think the Mossie retracts aft in each engine nacel. The DB retract inboard, unless you use the nose gear unit. I only have experience with the main gear not the nose gear. "
Perhaps I am not thinking about it clearly but wouldn't a main gear that "retracts inboard" become a main gear that retracts backward by simply rotating it 90 degrees? Am I missing something? Nose gears aren't necessary since the main struts do not steer.

Elmshoot,
I am curious as to whether you know of some specialized (non-rotating) retracts that retract backwards?
Being heavy into the jet side of r/c, I have seen and used many different types but I have never encountered any that are specialized for retracting backward other than the custom ones Robart makes for aircraft like the DC-3/C-47 (and, on second thought, I think these actually retract forward). In looking at my inventory of retracts, I see that the nosegear units lock up and down exactly the same way that the mains do. The nosegears all have the air cylinder or the mechanical rod (or actuating arm) parallel to the gear strut. The only difference I can see is that the nosegear is set up for steering and the mains are not.
Currently I am setting up a Corsair with Century Jet Rotating mains. With the exception of a very simple rotating mechanism, these are identical to mains that retract inward.
