Old covering material won't bond to wood.
I have a number of unopened rolls of SOLARFILM that no longer have adhesive ability but seems ok otherwise. Anyone have tips on how to make it stick?

Try some Balsarite. I've used fabric covering a couple of time that would stick to it's self good , but not wood. I used the Balsarite to coat all the wood. You don't want to let it set for a long period of time before applying the film. It will dry out to much and get to hard. Balsarite also helps to fuel proof the wood.

If you can't get ahold of balsarite, try any aliphatic glue. Just put on a very thin coat, let it dry, then iron down the covering over it. Works very well, even on oily wood.

I have solarfilm that is 20 years old and have no problems , Check your heat may be to low, and make sure you sand with fine paper and get all dust of surface be for applying. I also wipe surface with alcohol lightly and let dry. If you use a sock on your iron you can use more heat.
Good Luck
