Default Hanger 9 Edge 540 1/4 scale

I'm just starting to assemble the H9 Edge 540 1/4 scale, and have a question regarding setting up the wing for 0 degrees of dihedral. The instructions state that when gluing the two wing halves together, place the wing on a flat surface (1/2 flat on that surface) and the other wingtip should be elevated 1 1/8" off the work surface. My question is this; is this 1 1/8" from the front of the wingtip, the center or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated. []

It's to be measure at the wing tip.

Measure from the bottom of the thickest part of the wing at the wing tip.

Hi Silversurfer,

The guys at Chief Aircraft said "With the wing level from front to back measure in the center of the wing tip". Which one of you is correct?

The key to assembling this wing is to get it perfectly symetrical(same same top, bottom). In which case the "leading edge" ends up perfectly straight, and the trailing edge also is symetrical and straight. The dimensions of shimming they give should lead to this, however only in a perfect world.
I've done 3 of these so far, and the last one, I used a long clamp that I was able to actually clamp the halves together. I used the aileron cut-outs on the wing for clamping, and it was about a 30" clamp.
I've found relying on shims in this case did not prove to be the best way to go, as it's hard to secure the wing tight enough to the board, and then try to hold it together tight enough for epoxy to get a good grip.
Honestly I just eyed mine out, and babysat it until I was satisfied, and the glue was set up enough so as it wouldn't move.
I did use the shims to some degree, once I got it straight enough by eye, and clamped tight enough, I basically used the shims as a rest for the assembly, knowing it was straight. I taped a taut string to each tip also and used it as a guage for the leading edge(at a glance guage). You should know by looking though, as when it's straight, the proof is in the pudding.
Glue the main spar in one half first though and trial fit it and that right there might tell you how hard you have to work to get it perfect. I did have one that glued straight up with no prob..in about 10 min it was sitting and drying...and then I had one that didn't want to stay straight at all, and kept shifting minutely, enough to bug me, and be crooked.
Watch the tail mounting on these planes too. The stab base/rudder/stab fit is terrible, and the bottom of the rudder, and tail post might need some attention to be perfect. Good luck, and I hope this helps a bit.

Thanks dgrant, that's a big help. I especially like your idea of taping a string to the tips, that sounds like it would make it very easy to see if everything is straight.
