4* 40 Throttle Linkage Problem--Help!
Upon installation of the all of the pushrods, I noticed that I was going to have a problem linking up the throttle (the engine is an OS 40). The guide tube exits the firewall too high and is turned in a bit rather than facing straight out. I am assuming that it does that because it is bent around the fuel tank inside. The nylon clevis also binds on the engine mount where it is.
I thought that I could loosen and slide the carberator arm and turn it 180 degrees. I would think that this would more or less solve my problem, but that is right where the muffler is. I am out of ideas. Any tricks or solutions that you can give will be greatly appreciated!

Determine the exact position that the pushrod has to go through the firewall in both directions. If you have to drill a hole or file a groove in the back of the motor mount then do so.

On my 4 *, I cut the nylon tube farther back closer to the firewall. This was a cable type of pushrod not a wire/nylon rod. This worked out fine with my OS 46 LA.

I understand what you are saying. Thanks for the replies.
Scott-The wire idea sounds interesting to me. Could you possibly explain it in a little more detail.
Thanks!

Sullivan Flex Cable works great for the throttle pushrod; I also used their ball link to attach to the throttle--see attached photos.
I ran the throttle cable thru the formers on each end of the fuel tank compartment, keeping it right next to the side of the fuselage. This will save you a lot of headaches with vibration and the fuel tank.

Thanks for the pictures. I will look into the Sullivan wire. However, I'm not sure this will solve my problem with the engine mount. The method that I am using to attach the motor is to clamp it with the metal bars and bolts. I may look for a whole new engine mount and mount the motor through its holes. That should solve the problem.
Does anyone know where I can get a new engine mount that will fit the holes already drilled into the firewall? I do not want to go through the trouble to re-drill holes and then install the blind nuts.

That is a good idea. I will try that before I go out and buy some more stuff. Thanks to everyone that replied!

Aja,
In the the kit I had, the pushrods for the rudder and elevator were nylon rods that were inside a nylon tube. The ends were short 2-56 metal rods that threaded into the nylon rods. The thottle pushrod was a cable inside the nylon tube.

Gary- I know. It was a stupid way to mount the motor and it didn't work. I went out and bought some new hardware and mounted it normally. I don't have a picture of it anymore, but I can try to explain it.
The engine was placed on the mount. Then a metal strip, about 3/16" thick and about 2 inches long, with a hole on each end was set on top of the motor's mounting arms. The metal strip whould then be tightened with screws clamping the engine between the strip and the mount. This was the most familiar thing to me since it came like that on my Superstar trainer.
Everything works without a problem now. I found a longer metal pushrod for the end of the nylon pushrod and bent it until it worked. Thanks to all those who helped me out!
