Butyrate dope and stixit, nitrate. I know now
I just finished the first coat of butyrate dope on my waco covered useing stixit. The dope seems to melt the stixit bond. It can be worked out but I think thats why the instructions say use nitrate. Its been talked about and thought you guys should know my experience. Also how much talcome powder should I mix with the dope to fill the weave of koverall?

RE: Butyrate dope and stixit, nitrate. I know now
When mixing in talc, first mix your nitrate 50/50 with thinner. Then ince mixed add about 20% talc to that. Make sure you use a very fine brush when applying or you will get loads of brush strokes, and apply very thin to prevent excessive buildup, etc. sand very lightly between coats. Also when you are ready to prime or paint, I would run a fine steel wool over your final coat of talc mixture to get rid of any rough spots, just in case.

I'm assuming you know that the nitrate is not fuel proof. You have to put butyrate over it. That's when your shrinking process really starts in.
