Extremely tail heavy kit built
I have posted this problem under the kit built forum but would like as many opinions as I can get.
I kit built a Goldberg Tiger 60. I built it according to the plans and did not add or take away anything not shown on the plans. I installed an OS 70 surpass II for power and installed the receiver and battery as far forward as I could. I built the kit as with a nose wheel. The problem is the extremely heavy tail. The plane will not even stand on the nose wheel unless I put almost 1 lb. of weight on it. How could it possibly be that far out of balance?
Any suggestions.
Thanks, Al

RE: Extremely tail heavy kit built
Al I have the .40 size. And like many others it will fall on the tail with the tank empty and the engine off. However the CG is at the back of the range when inverted on the CG machine. It also flys great. It will do touch and goes without touching the nose wheel. When I taxi it in and kill the engine it falls on it's tail. As long as the tank is full or the engine running it will stand on all three.
It made me think at first it was tail heavy. After rechecking it it was fine. I would suggest balancing it inverted in the recommended range and fly it. If it is in fact tail heavy. Buy another $5 engine mount and push the engine forward a little bit.

OK two critical questions here:
First, did you check the center gravity and measure how far to the rear of wings leading edge it is?
Next, when you build a tricycle gear airplane the main gear must be further to the rear than the tail dragger version and I am sure that if the plans show both versions this will be spelled out. Is this main gear position further to the rear than what they show for the taildragger gear?
