Default Smoke mufflers?

ok just a question ive been wondering about for awhile. whats the difference between a regular muffler and a smoke muffler? yes i know the smoke muffler is for smoke, but is there something different about how they are made inside other than the fitting on the outside? just wanting to know because i was thinking about just tapping a hole into the muffler i have now and put a fitting on it for smoke. can someone fill me in as i would like to know.. thanks

Tap a hole and add the fitting. The big thing is WHERE to tap the hole.

What type of engine are you using?

Usually a muffler is tapped for two reasons. Vent (pressure) and smoke.
You want to tap for perssure near or in the expansion chamber.
You want to tap for smoke where the exhaust is the hottest.

What you want to do is to introduce the oil as close to the engine's exhaust outlet as possible. What I do on gassers is to drill a 1/8" hole in the muffler and insert a piece of 1/8" copper tubing (Available at Auto part stores for about 50 cents a foot). position the end of the tube right at the exhaust outlet and JB weld it in place
