Default Glow plug

Gidday all, I have a MDS .78 pro and the glow plug in it is a burnt out HAN3011 Superplug. What would some alternative plugs be in the same range as this type? My power panel seems to surge power through the glow driver and burns out plugs even when the dial is turned right down. Any ideas of what's going on there would be a help. kind regards, John.

If you have a source, I'd try the OS No. 8 plug. A better plating on the coil.
Your panel must be putting out more than 3v. Do you have a volt tester to see what the actual output would be ? Something is not wired correctly to the rheostat.

John,
I would try the OS 8 plug. I would ditch the power panel an go with a Nicad Glow starter. I have seen to may power panels blow glow plugs as even a small short in them supplys 12Vcc to the plug.

Cheers.

Thanks fellas for the input, I will give the No. 8's a go. I put a multi meter on the glow driver outlet and it registers over 12 volts regardless of where I set the dial. Looks like I'll need a nicad glow starter. Thanks again men. Kind regards, John.

John,
Power panels will register 12Vcc on open circut. You have to check voltage under load. Power panels pulse the 12Vcc to lite the plug. Good luck.

Cheers.

Thanks Ghost, I put an old working plug on the glow clip with dial tuned right down and slowly increased the output, the needle was well within the blue and all of a sudden it jumps right up and burnt the plug out. From now on I'll just use the panel for fuel pump and starter. But if you could suggest a way I might be able to fix the surging prob I will give it a go. Thanks for your assistance. Kind regards, John.

John,
I have replaced the regulator in the glow driver before, but they still end up blowing plugs after a while. Don't bother with the glow driver and just use a Nicad driver that way you will never blow another plug again with to many Vcc.

Cheers.
