Hi guys
I am going to be making a homeade glow plug igniter, what is the best guage wire to use? Also plan to use some "Deans Connecters" too? I found some on Tower "wire" but there are several guages. Not sure what to get?
Thanks

RE: Wire
The glow igniters that use a separate power source, use something like regular lamp cord that is normally used for 110V ac current. Something smaller could be used though. You don't say exactly how you want to use the Dean's connectors, but most folks would put a male plug on the end that would mate to a power panel. If you want to put a single cell nicad or nimh on the end, the wires can be soldered directly to the battery and the unit shrink wrapped or taped.
Good luck!

RE: Wire
How are you planning to connect the wires to the glow plug?
Since it's home made, I assume you're not using a commercially available clip. Which means you'll have to come up with some way of connecting the wire to the stem of the glow plug.
I've been considering fabricating something similar to this: [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXD694&P=0]Dubro Remote Safety Ignitor[/link] The tricky part is the wire that clips onto the glow plug. I understand some car guys use cotter pins or hitch pins or something like that. For my application, it would have to be very lightweight and secure.
Just looking for more ideas.

RE: Wire
Chris -
AWG 20 wire is good for 5 amps.
Glow plugs use about 3-4 amps.
Here is a quick sketch of the glow plug clip that works fine for me. It is made from 1/64 sheet brass (.015") and covered with heat shrink.
