Fun fly events, need ideas
Need new ideas for fun fly events. We have been putting on a short fun fly at our field once a month after our monthly buisness
meeting. The events that we have been doing are: Timed climb to
alt. cut engine and see who can glide the longest. Spot landings to boxes with points painted in them. Various loops rolls etc. in a given time. Ribon cut limbo type. Cut the streamer behind a tow plane. Taxi thru different courses on the runway. Any new ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I lost an eye in an auto accident and have a problem with depth perception and used to take a lot of ribbing for missing the landing area (spot).
So, the next time I was the event coordinator I had a bunch or eye patches made up. The contestants had to wear a patch on their dominate eye and land in a 25' dia. circle to receive 50 points with each addition 5' resulting in a deduction of 5 points.
I no longer get any ribbing (one of our better fliers missed the field!).

We have played kick the can.Tape two pop cans together ,one on top of the other.Put a bit of water in the lower one for weight to keep it uprite.set it on the center of the runway and try to hit it with out touching wheels on the runway.it is a lot harder that a guy would think.

Attach a styrofoam cup to the top of the plane with rubberbands, and popsicle sticks, or however you like. Place 5 jellybeans in the cup. Then you have to take off and land, trying not to loose any jellybeans. The most left wins. If you have a tie, then you have to go back up and do a loop. We laughed our a**'s of doing this one. It was hillarious.

THIS ONE IS TOUGH. THIS IS A TIMED EVENT. TAKE OFF. AS SOON AS WHEELS LEAVE THE GROUND START TIMER. CLIMB TO ABOUT 300 FEET, EAT FIVE PEANUT BUTTER CRACKERS. ATTEMPT TO WHISTLE. AS SOON AS A SOMEWHAT WHISTLE IS HEARD LAND THE PLANE. STOP THE CLOCK WHEN THE WHEELS TOUCH. ITS A BLAST AND AN EVENT EVEN A NOVICE CAN ENTER. GOOD LUCK.

Musical chairs,
have an operator working the portable radio with is back to the pilots and a spotter by his side. Get 5 planes in the air then the operator starts the music after time given by the operator he ends the music and yells land the first plane to touch the ground and get air born again wins that event
marv119, whats a pop can? are you referring to a soda can?

POP can
Us northern hillbillies refer to soda as pop. I had never heard of soda until I visited releatives in Missouri. Here a soda is like a ice cream float!
We had a poker fly that everyone in our club enjoyed. The best 2 out of 3 flights and each flight generated points. 10 points were given for a take off, 10 points for landing, 10 points for 5 rolls (2 points per roll, max 10), 10 points for 5 loops (2 points per loop, max 10) and 10 points for flying inverted over the field. For every 10 points a card was given. Each pilot draws the cards they have earned and the best poke hand wins. Everyone thouroughly enjoys this at our field.

At the age of 16 my dad was transfered to a new job in Muskogee OK, So we moved from TX up there. Every time we wanted a coke/soda we had to learn the new lingo of POP so every time we asked to go to the store for a pop my dad would say come here I'll give you a pop. To us Texans, its referred as Sody water. And instead of "you guys" its "y'all" down here

We had a few interesting events recently
1. Place balloons on the ground all over the field. Folks have 3 minutes to taxi and bust as many balloons as they can. Harder than it sounds.
2. Climb for 30 seconds, go to idle and see how many deadstick loops you can do (safely) before having to land.
