Default 11lb Biplane with OS FS52?

I've recently aquired a used biplane and the previous owner said he flew it with an OS FS-70. He said this was a pretty hot plane with that engine. I don't need to to be super hot, so I'm wondering if an FS-52 will have enough power to fly it. I don't know who the manufacturer is and it doesn't look like anything I've seen (could be a scratch built project).

The plane (ready to fly) weighs in at 10.8lb dry. Span is about 55", length, about 50"

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks

Russ

I just looked in the tower hobbies catalog and found the tiger moth which weighs 10.25 lbs and it requires a .61-.75 2 stroke or a .91 4 stroke. I hope this helps.

An almost eleven pound airplane at that relative small size is a good indication that this is not a 'slow floater' and using the small engine may well be a mistake.

I think the previous owner was jerking your chain or has a different definition of "hot plane".

I agree with everybody. I have a scratch built 11 pound bipe that has really similar dimensions. I have a Tower .75 two stroke in her. I wish it had a .90 or 1.08 2 stroke instead. That 52 four stroke won't even get it off the ground.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'll start looking for a larger engine for her.

I fourth that recommendation.

At 11 pounds and being a bipe it would fly like a brick underpowered and with a FS52 or even a FS70 for that matter it would be underpowered.

Hi!
It will not be a "hot airplane " even with a .90 fourstroke when the weight is near 11 pounds (5kg).
