is kylon paint fuel proof?
I am building a tf 1/7 p-51 and I am thinking of using Krylon aluminum paint for the finish. I am wondering if krylon paint is fuel proof or will I have to put some kind of clear coat over it? I have seen pics of a guy that used krylon paint but it was electric.

RE: is kylon paint fuel proof?
The SAFEST way to find out is to spray a test panel with the Krylon and after it drys put some glo fuel on it. SOME of the Krylon and SOME of the Rustoleum paint is fuel proof.
FWIW - "Dupli-Color Truck & Van" paint is fuel proof. It does come in an aluminum/silver color and costs about $4.00 for an 11 oz can at Wal-Mart. It is labled on the back as an acrylic.
Read the label on the back of the can. If the label says ACRYLIC enamel/lacquer it is fuel proof, if it doesn't say acrylic, it most likely is not fuel proof.
Water base polyurethane is an excellent clear coat. No fumes, good to 10% nitro (reports say 15% nitro), and does not yellow with age.
Be careful with compatibility. You can put enamel over lacquer paints, but not the reverse.

RE: is kylon paint fuel proof?
This subject came up on the control line forum....it seemed to be the common consensus that Krylon and Rustoleum both are fuel proof, but not the metallic colors.

Krylon is NOT fuel proof.
It doesn't come off right away like some paint, but after a month or two it will get gummy and need to be removed.
You can however, cover it with a clear Polyurethane to fuel proof it.
(Although it's called "Clear", Polyurethane will put a slight yellow tint on white paint or covering)
