I"m modifying a kit to dual aileron servos and need a source for tubes to route the wiring thru in the wing. LHS doesn't even know what I'm talking about, more into trains and trucks. Need @ 1/2" dia and 7-10" length. No, I don't really want to make my own. I guess I'm lazy that way and know my limitations. Anyone know where to get these?

Limitations? My word, what's so hard about rolling a piece of paper into a tube and putting a bit of glue to hold it?

Last time I tried it , they came out looking like doo-doo and came apart as I tried to install them. I realize they will be hidden and never seen again, just want to do it right.

I've done the paper tube thing myself with no problem. But it does take a bit of some expertise to nurse these things in. Best time to do it is while you're building the wing and sliding them in as you glue the ribs to the spars. Another trick that some of the guys do is to use model rocket tubes from Estes rockets.

Not sure what else to suggest. Although I did my tubes a little differently, they are pretty much like has already been suggested. I took a sheet of paper and rolled it up. I then inserted my finger in each end and pulled the roll tighter to make a smaller roll. I then put on a small rubber band to hold the paper in a smaller size than the holes in the wing rib. I then inserted the paper roll in the ribs and when in place, I cut loose the rubber band. The roll then expaned on its own to the size of the holes in the ribs. I then went back and taped (you could use glue) to hold the seam in place. Finally, I put a spot of glue on each rib where the paper came in contact with it. Worked fine for me. BTW: It was lined writing paper, nothing special. I just can't see spending $9.95 on something that cost me nothing.

One of the problems I have is that I sheeted the wing before I remembered that I needed the tubes. Sticking loose rolled paper tubes in now would be a challenge I could have avoided if I had thought ahead a bit. As for the $9.95 (plus shipping) at least it looks like I would be getting a near lifetime supply of the stuff. I know Great Planes used to provide paper tubes in some of their kits (Fun One) but I have been unable to find anyone else who supplies them.

You can always add the holes to the ribs and skip the tubes altogether.

I am adding the holes but fishing the wires thru would be the fun part, especially once covering is done. Gonna have to go thru 4 ribs on each side. Holes will not be too hard right now as I have not joined wing halves yet, caught that in time. Still be hard to add the loose paper tubes tho. Would rather have 1/2" if could find them.

Fishing the wires is no problem as long as you have the holes. Put a small nut on the end of a piece of thread. Put it in either the servo hole or the hole in the center of the wing that you want the servo lead to come out of. Stand the wing on a tip and shake the wing. In no time you will hear the nut at the other end. Tie the thread to the servo connector and pull through.

I'll give that method a dry run tonight before I order anything, should work OK. I'll be able to keep holes smaller and not sacrifice as much rib strength.

Try using a low 'E' string from a guitar,flexible but strong enough to where you can aim the darn thing,i use it,works out pretty good.

The string method works VERY WELL. When you stand the wing ion end, try to align the holes so they are close to plumb and the nut will fall right through without any issues. No need for tubes in this case. In fact, I wouldn't even recommend them.....

As for the size of the holes, without getty too crazy, go ahead and make them a convenient size. Ribs provide very little strength. Ribs are mostly there just for shape. As long as you are not cutting holes directly between upper and lower spars, you shouldn't have a problem.

Why not go ahead and pre-install a servo extension and tie it off where your servo will mount prior to covering the wing?

Drill the holes, take a piece of 24 inch paper or however long you need, roll it up tight, slide it in, let it expand to the diameter of the holes, hit it with a touch of hot glue or white glue, cut off the ends.

If you can't do that, may I suggest basket weaving. Just kidding about the basket weaving of course.

I'm in the process of assembling a Hanger 9 CAP ARF with a 73" wingspan and was pretty ticked when I saw that they don't install a tube in the wings for servo wires. But a piece of thread with a small weight solved the problem and took all of about a minute per wing.

Estes BT-5 rocket tubes are practically made for this sort of stuff. They're 18" long and 1/2" diameter and come 4 to a pack.

You can get them at Tower or any hobby shop that has a rocket section.

Now that looks like just what I had in mind. Checked Tower web and they actually sell in packs of 4 of 1/2"x18" for $3.99, but that is still fine. I cut holes last night and they will work for this plane but I will definitely be picking up on these for the future.

Aquarium stores usually have clear hard plastic tubing in three foot lengths and various diameters. Its a little more expensive, but if you need a tube and you can not find a paper one, the difference in cost may not a problem.

If you don't use tubes, a piece of yellow nyrod works well to fish wires through too.
