Default Engine recommendation for 4*60?

I'm thinking about getting a 4*60 and would like some engine recommendations. I'd like to use an OS 2-stroke, but the available .61 is at the bottom of the recommended range. I'd rather have something closer to .75.

Is there a recommended alternative to the OS which is closer to .75?

Thanks
Dave

I know it is outside of what you mentioned, but I fly mine with an OS91 Surpass 4 stroke. Great engine and great combination with the 4* IMO

Hey Dave:

I had several 4*60's that flew very well when powered by my Irvine .72 --- also I have seen several powered by OS.91's. Either combination would work well !

Hope this helps:

Mine is powered by a Magnum .91 4-stroke and is a great combination for everyday flying.

Our club has had several members build them and all fly great. Personally I think the 4-strokes fly better, especially doing low and slow aerobatics.

The best combination I have seen though is a Saito 1.20 with enlarged control surfaces and the thrust line lowered a little bit. Unlimited vertical and capable of some 3-D.

Hello; I won't recommend a two stroke, My 4 star 60 has an old OS 90 four stroke, swinging a 15 x 6 APC prop. I haven't flown it much since I knocked teh tail off it, but I think it's 6 years old now and still a great flyer. I have seen other 4 star 60's with OS 91's and Magnum 91's, but I haven't seen any with two strokes.

The four star will fly very well with a 75 size two stroke. Mine with the MDS 78 and a 14 6 prop will go strait up for about 300 feet before falling out (would probably hover but is limited by my flying skills) this is at just above 1/2 throttle. At full power will go until you cant see it anymore.
I've tried a 12 8 prop,too fast caused flutter;and a 13 7 good speed but not the pull of the 14 6.
The general idea is that the MDS is not the most powerful engine in this class so any of the lower priced 75's (Tower,GMS,Super Tiger)should give you comparable performance.
Don't worry about engine wieght, with a 16oz feul tank battery as far ahead as possible it still took 6oz of lead to balance within the recomended cg range.

Mine flies pretty good with a Thunder Tiger 61PRO.

I am going to be another one to vote for the 4 stroke.... It really is worth the extra money in my opinion...

I use the Magnum .91 4 stroke as already mentioned......

GREAT combo.....

It would fly just fine with the 61 2 stroke, probably have plenty of speed and enough power for Sunday flying.....

so it really depends on how you want to fly it......

I am using mine for arobatic training.... I enlarged the rudder, and will be enlarging the elevator next......

The ailierons seem to have enough ooomph for now, but I may enlarge those too........

Wonderful plane!
Oh, I also added a Sullivan tailwheel as the stock tail wheel being supported by the rudder hinges made me nervous

I run an O.S. 61Fx on mine with a 12 1/2 inch by 6 prop and it flies very well. Neither to slow or to fast. Replace the factory nylon pushrods for the rudder and elevator with sullivan 4-40 metal pushrods unless you like changing trim every flight. I used a klett 60 size tailwheel assembly on mine along with Bruce Tharpe wheel pants.

Take a look at the Saito 81 or the Satio 100 4-stroke. Dennis

I have a friend with a saito 100 in his and it flies very well. Really any .91 4 stroke or 60 2 stroke should be fine.

I would agree if you want a 2c, that it should be bigger than a 61 IMO...
I also have the Mag 91 4c.. 14x4W prop on my stock 4*60 except for
large servo arms and CF rods and I love it. No weight added for the
CG with my battery pack as far forward under the tank, now it is just
under the wing bolts. She will hover all day, and pull out is OK, K.E.'s
aren't bad I do have to cheat sometimes by leaning the wing over or
turn:-) I'm now working on rolling circles.. Most I got is 3 so far...
The 4* is a very good and capable flyer and is very easy to land...
