How should we run our event?
We are going to have a fun fly at the Buck RC club in Buck, PA on October 26th. Our field is fairly large and wide, but straight. We are inviting both fixed wing and heli flyers.
We do not have segregated flying areas. We were thinking of having time slices for heli, then fixed, then heli, then fixed.....
This would happen throughout the day. We then are planning the events right in the middle of the day, then flying afterwards.
Have any of you guys put on a fun fly and delt with helis and fixed wing flying together?
How did you do it?
if anyone wants to email me direct, I would be happy to hear all suggestions.

How should we run our event?
We just had one in August. We had ALL hovering, heli or 3D plank off the runway. If they wanted to fly the pattern, then that was fine. Any fancy stuff, heli or plank had to be done over the far side of the runway. This kept it open for take offs and landings and any dead-sticks that may have occurred. It worked out quite well.

I would recommend having the planes stage while the helicopters are flying and when the planes take off the helicopters land. They refuel and rest while pilots are taking turns. When the pilots are finished, then the helicopters take off. Since planes cover the entire field, one or two at a time is OK. With helicopters, you should have one at each end of the field.

That's kind of the idea that we were thinking of. Good suggestions. Our field if deep enough that when the helis fly, we can setup cones and have them fly pretty much perpendictular(sp) to the flight line. This way we could have at least 4-5 helis in the air at the same time.
We will start the times for anyone to fly at 9am and I guess alternate heli/plane after that. Then for the fun fly, I believe we have anough room to do just what you suggested, stage for a heli event while flying a plane event, then fly the heli event while staging for the plane.
I'll have to think that one through.
I'm expecting from 30-50 people there and abou 20-30 pilots of which 60% will be plane (at least).

Sounds like you are going through what I am going through. My delima is more basic. I need to find a source for plane events. Wonder what events you have scheduled?

Re: Events
I don't understand your question.
You need a source for plane events?
What does that mean? :spinnyeye

How should we run our event?
Sorry I wasn't very clear. I have heard of events such as spot landing, limbo and timed takeoff and landing. I don't know what the specific formats are for these events. My question was, is there a source of event ideas and formats that I might access to put a fun fly together?
TIA

Here's a pretty good link to a site that has some ideas for events.
We're going to have 3-4 plane events and 3 heli events.
