Li-ion or Nicd RX .and other weight tricks?
Wasn't sure where to post this.....
Finally ordered a Vectorflight 66" Edge 540 (what scale would that be close to...23% or so??)
Well...when I build it, I would like to build it as light as possible.....
Haven't decided on engine, but leaning towards the Saito 100...
But.. at this size is it worth it to use Li-Ion RX batteries and a regulator or standart Nicd/Nimh RX batteries??
and would it be worth it to start using things like CF gear and spinner, or does this not really make a difference until you are in the 35% or greater realm??
Any other tricks to make an ARF lighter
Thanks

A plane of this size, the few ounces you save by using lipoly rx packs is really negligible. I'd just use a 4.8 volt nimh pack.
Also, if something bad happens like a crash, a nimh pack isn't going to explode like a lipoly. The entailing explosion and fire
could hit your fuel tank and then the real fireworks happen. My opinion, the cost and safety factor of lipos used in rx packs
doesn't justify the extra $$$.

I would think every once would matter...
oh and I use 6v Rx batteries so that is the weight comparison I am using
As for safety, I appreciate your concern.. I fly lipos with my electrics and understand the risks....
but the plan is to not crash

For a plane that size, I'd stick with NiCads as they have lower internal impedance (you will be using lots of high current servos) and are much more rugged than either NiMh or LiPos as well as haveing twice the lifetime of the NiMh and three times that of the LiPo's.
