What is control surface chord and control surface length of an airplane how these are to be measured.Any one have the knowledge of these two topics.Recommended with Photo[:'(]

The chord is the width of the control surface. If the width tapers (such as some ailerons ) take several measurements and average them for the chord.

The control surface length is the length of the control surface at the hinge line.

Small correction. Control surface length can be more than the length at the hinge line. Aerodynamically balanced control surfaces often extend beyond the hinge line. Example many WWI aircraft. the rounded tips of the ailerons, elevators and the rudder of a Fokker
D-VII. Not wanting to cause an argument just a small note.
