could it be an Astro Hog by SIG?
It looks very similar but still slightly different (for one thing the rudder looks more rounded on this mistery plane)

I have something very similar in my parents basement. And I agree that it looks like an original u-control stunt plane. Similar to an old legacy. Sorry not sure what it is exactly.

Joe might know
Hi Mike,
1. Ask Joe Nagy at [email protected]
He knows just about everything to know about vintage R/C airplanes ..... a real R/C historian so to speak.
2. I think you would get a better response by posting the pic in the Vintage / Antique Forum.
just a thought,
Bill

I can't identify the airplane either, but the rounded ridder leads me to believe that the airplane was designed by Harold deBolt. I can distinctly remember that rudder shape on one of his airplanes - but can't put a name to it. Harold still writes for Model Airplane News - antique column - betcha he can tell us all what it is.

I thought it was an Astrohog too. According to the review at
http://webpages.charter.net/rcfu/Kit...s/SigHog2.html
The Astrohog came out in the 50's. I think it won an aerobatics championship ... maybe the first RC nationals or something like that. The details elude me now but I remember seeing the plane in the museum at Muncie.

It doesn't look like a hog. But for the record the hog came out in the early 50's. There's an old time flyer in our club. He told me his first ever rc airplane was an astro hog. He baught it in 54.
I know that doesn't help the question. Just a bit of info.

I think that plane is a "Candy. I can't remember the designer's name. Candy was one of several sport pattern planes that came out in the 70's that were a little smaller than the usual pattern designs of the day. Several of these appreared in RCM as construction articles. You said Violet gave you the name of the plane but the plans didn't match the one in the picture. What was the name he gave you, remember? Just curious.

Re: the Astro Hog...From Sig's website:
This is the legendary model that got R/C aerobatics off the ground in 1957. As the first successful low-wing R/C model, it swept the top four places at the ‘58 Nationals and pioneered the unlimited aerobatic capability we take for granted today...
