Default Ok to swap out the 600mAh NiCd transmitter battery for a 1650mAh NiMh?

I am thinking about swapping the stock 600mAh NiCd pack in my Futaba 6XAS for a 1650mAh NiMh HydriMax Ultra. Here's a link [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDXC8&P=0]1650mAh HydriMax Ultra[/link]. Has anyone had any experiences with the swap, good or bad? Both batteries have the same dimensions and both cost $34.99 at Tower Hobbies. A slight modification to the battery lead is all that would be required ( the stock battery has a small white plug instead of the standard J type battery plug.

Thanks. Gene

As long as it fits (voltage, etc.)and you get it wired correctly..... sure....

I swapped out the stock 700 mAh battery in my 9Cap for a 2300 mAh battery.... I can fly the whole weekend and much more and never worry about a charge......

The voltage is 9.6v and dimensions are identical with the stock pack. I am going to give the 6XAS to my wife and get the new 9CAPS for myself. I believe it also comes with a 600-700mAh. You say you have no problems with the NiMh pack in your 9CAP? Battery says discharge rate should not exceed 750mAh. Have you used any of the NiMh receiver packs?

Thanks. Gene

The bigger packs work fine.
Remember though that if you are still using the original wall wart charger that you are charging the bigger pack well below the C-10 rate which could lead to underperformance.

Check in on Red Schoefields site for charging information.

I have been using larger capacity transmitter pack for several years and like you find it convienient to be able to flyy acouple of days without recharging.

Thanks for the info. Red Schoefields web site? Sorry, not familiar with it. I am going to get a Hobbico Accu-Cycle Elite Battery Charger for my receiver and transmitter packs. Here's a link [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000542274&I=LXEYD4&P=K]Accu-Cycle Elite[/link] just in case you haven't used or don't have one. It claims to do everything for a battery.

I used a 1650maH pack in my 9C.
I would get 5.5 hours of use before it reached the low voltage limit.
