Default Re-covering control surfaces?

What's the best way to recover a wing and ailerons? Should I cut through the hinges to remove the aileron? I had a cool crash into a wet ditch with tall grass that punctured the covering on the entire wing, but did very little damage to the frame.

Sure there is another way. You can recover the plane with the ailerons in place and hinged. I cover all of the planes that I build that way. I assemble them and then cover. Cut a small piece of covering and fold it in half, deflect the aileron fully, insert the piece of covering, seal to both sides of the gap, then seal the edges on top to the aileron and to the wing. Then recover the wing up to the gap, then trim off the covering at the gap. See first picture

Refer to the second to see the order in which you should cover the rest of the wing. This order is important because you don't want a seam exposed to the wind stream, it can lift the covering and pull it off.

Hope this helps
