Warped balsa building board
I bought a Great Planes balsa building board and it is warped widthwise. As per GP's FAQ, I set the thing on end for a while to 'allow both sides to equalize their moisture content'. It has gotten better, but there is still about a 1/16" warp on one side. Not sure if it will continue to true up, but I am itching to get started on my 4*60.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Patrick

Send it back. If you don't, you'be building crooked planes. HINT: You can make your own building board cheaper and better.

Unfortunately, I already used it. It warped after being on the workbench for about a month. I have to say, it is very nice... if only it were straight.

RE: Warped balsa building board
THen find another board that is flat and glue it on to it. Use a good quality contact cement and make sure the surface that you are working from is flat and a good deal of weight to press the two boards together. Course this would limit your ability to use both sides of the balsa board for building but at least it will be flat.
Cheers,

RE: Warped balsa building board
The guy at the LHS told me he has been using his for 8 years and it is great. Anyhow, the warp is lessening, I am just getting antsy to start building. So, he told me to wait another week to see if trues up and to give GP a call in the meantime.
We'll see what happens.
BTW, I loved working on that board. Much better than other surfaces I have tried. Pins go in smooth and easy and hold nice and tight.
