Default Correct way to fill the fuel tank?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there a secret to filling the fuel tank? I have a 3-port 6oz. tank. Two of the ports are connected to the carb and silencer, the third port is used for refilling. I use a small injector bottle for refilling.
As soon as the tank is filled approx half way, the fuel start to spew out the silencer and/or carb. I can never fill the tank to the brim.
Is there a right and wrong way to fill the tank with the injector bottle?

Pete.

It sounds to me like you do not have the fuel tank set up properly.

What you should have is;
1. The line from the carburator goes to the fuel pick up line that has the clunk attached, this hangs to the lowest piont of the tank and moves with the AC and the fuel.
2. The line from the muffler (silencer) is attached to a brass pipe that should be bent UP to the top of the fuel tank and often into a small 'blister' on the top of the tank. This is where the back pressure enters the tank and it should never be 'submerged' in the fuel.
3. the filler hose is a strait in line that just need extend past the stopper.

It would appear that you have misaligned the backpressure (silencer) line: as you fill the tank to this line the fuel then is forced out of the muffler. (path of least resistance)

Good Luck!

By jove, you were spot on with you prognosis -- I did indeed have the silencer and filler vents inverted. Just been to the shed and put your theory to the test. I'm bloody chuffed to see that it's working a treat now.

Many thanks for the answer, bbbair.
Nice to meet you.

BTW, if you bend the filler tube (the one inside the tank) down so it touches bottom, you can use it for De-Fueling as well.
