Default cowl questions

Can anyone tell me how much room I need from top of engine to cowl and how much room from carb to cowl. I have clearence now.. just not sure how much I need. Thanks

With an ABS (plastic ) cowl you should have an absolute minimum of 3/16" on the exhaust, 1/8" on the head, or where the cylinder passes through the cowl. I would also say a minimum of 3/16" on the carb to allow proper air flow.

With a fiberglass cowl you can go to 1/8" on the exhaust.

These are MINIMUM clearances to minimize/prevent warping/melting of the cowl. Obviously, for optimum engine cooling and minimizing warping/melting, you should have greater clearances. There are very few instances I can think of where you would need to go to minimum clearances on a cowl.
