Default ST 90 J-B Weld repair??

Crashed and buried engine in dirt. Carb needle bent, spray valve bent, guess I need a new carb. anyway, the carb base on the body is cracked now, about 1/4" from hole opening diagonally towards base. If I J-B weld and clamp it together, is that a repair that would work, or do I have to junk the engine and get a new body? thanks

it may or may not work depends on how clean and oil free you get the surface and how the crack is in relation to the carb retainer.try it you have nothing to lose.i have found that instead of using jb weld that there is aluminum solder available that melts with a propane terch that can fill holes and cracks and is as strong as aluminum, have used it on some old vintage engies okwith that much heat on the crankcase i remove the bearings and liner to prevent troubles down the road.

The JB Weld will work, HOWEVER, the area to be repaired MUST BE CLEAN.

When I have to make that kind of repair I clean the affected parts AND the surrounding area with acetone and a clean cloth. I do this twice to be sure I have gotten all the oil/grease/gunk off. I have repaired several mufflers this way with excellent results - it should also work on the engine.

The aluminum rods mentioned are also a viable solution, however, I would be leary of using a propane torch on my engines.

Now that I have read the two very informative posts, I'll add that the crack is in the carb base actually. Don't know if that makes any difference at all.

I find that Liquid steel is better on aluminum and also Marine tex. They seem to harden better.

NJ Georgee, I'm unfamiliar with liquid steel and marine tex, is there a commercial name for these products?
